Cybersecurity Matters

Cybersecurity Matters

One of the greatest challenges facing businesses today is cybersecurity. As employees continue to work from home (WFH), the office and other remote locations, hazardous cyber threats continue to rise.

  • Approximately 40% of organizations have reported a spike in cybercrime since enabling remote working
  • 61% of all malware has been targeted towards remote workers through cloud applications

Here are a few simple steps your business can take to help reduce the threat of cyberattacks:

System Updates: One of the best ways to protect yourself from cyber-attacks is to ensure the device, operating system, program and mobile apps you are using are updated with the latest software.

Antivirus Software: Install an antivirus solution to detect, disarm and remove malicious malware already on your computer or network and keep it updated.

Firewall: Filter your internet traffic by using a firewall to prevent infected files, malicious malware and viruses from entering your computer or network.

Secure Networks: Keep your information safe while browsing online by using a virtual private network (VPN). This creates a secure connection between your device and the internet by encrypting your data.

Endpoint Protection: Enforce the use of strong, unique passwords for every online account your employees use. When possible, enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) across all user devices and accounts to provide an additional layer of security.

Data Encryption: Your company’s sensitive data should be encrypted in storage and while being transmitted. In the event of a breach, encrypted data will be illegible and useless.

Data Backup & Recovery: Data stored on a separate medium can be recovered in the event of data loss or corruption. Backup copies on a regular basis to minimize the amount of data lost between backups.

Whether your business relies heavily on cloud computing or just maintains a website and uses email, cybersecurity should be a top priority. For best results, have an IT professional conduct a cybersecurity health check to help identify areas of weakness and to recommend appropriate measures to reduce your risks.
