TutorialsHere you will find detailed information about performing specific tasks with BendTel's hosting services. Transfering Files BendTel's Web Hosting ServersAs part of our ongoing efforts to keep our systems up to date, and in response to our customers' needs, BendTel is rolling out a new web hosting infrastructure. The following sections will explain how to manage your web site files on BendTel's web platform. Example usage of FileZilla exists for the methods described below here. In the past, the normal FTP hostname was st.bendtel.net, but this is no longer used. The Staging server is no longer part of the infrastructure. This means that changes made to your files no longer require a minute to syncronize with the live servers; all changes are immediate. Connecting via FTPAny FTP program should work when connecting to the web server. The hostname you will use is the same as your website name (www.example.com) or in many cases the "ftp" subdomain (ftp.example.com). You will also need to know your username and password.
Connecting via FTPS (FTP over SSL/TLS)BendTel's FTP servers support FTP connections secured with TLS (SSL). FTP over TLS is still a new standard (RFC 4217), so not all FTP programs will have support for it. BendTel recommends the use of TLS for your FTP transfers if your software does not have support for SFTP (see below). The settings you will use for FTPS are the same as those for FTP (hostname, username, and password) but you may need to explicitly turn on the TLS/SSL function of your particular software. The settings required on any particular FTPS client will vary. For example, FileZilla requires that you use the FTPES setting. Connecting vie SFTPBendTel hosting servers now also support file transfers through SFTP (not to be confused with FTPS). SFTP is not an extension of the historic FTP protocol, but is an extension of the Secure Shell protocol (SSH). iThis is the preferred method of file transfer as it is very secure and well supported by a number of applications. When using SFTP with BendTel web hosting servers, be sure to configure your client to use port 20022 instead of the default port (22). Click here to see example usage with FileZilla. |
